Packaging is one of the few brand touchpoints a customer physically holds. Here’s what’s shifting in how brands are approaching it this year.

1. Mono-material construction

Mixed-material boxes (plastic windows, foil laminates, mixed adhesives) are harder to recycle. More brands are specifying single-material kraft or chipboard builds that stay fully recyclable without disassembly.

2. Right-sized packaging

Oversized boxes cost more to ship and look wasteful on an unboxing video. Custom-sized boxes matched tightly to the product are increasingly standard, not a premium option.

3. Printed interiors

The inside of the lid and the interior walls are now branding real estate — a printed thank-you message or pattern costs little extra at scale but noticeably improves the unboxing moment.

4. Matte-first finishes

Matte lamination with a single spot-UV accent (rather than full gloss) is becoming the default premium look across cosmetics and apparel packaging.

5. Small-batch custom printing

Digital printing has pushed minimum order quantities for full-color custom boxes down substantially, making custom packaging realistic for smaller brands, not just enterprise orders.
