Practical, budget-realistic ways to make your packaging greener without redesigning your entire supply chain.

“Sustainable packaging” can mean anything from a marketing label to a genuine supply-chain overhaul. Here are changes that make a measurable difference without requiring a total redesign.

Start with material, not just messaging

Recycled kraft and FSC-certified board stock are close in cost to virgin material at most order volumes now. Switching your base material is usually the single highest-impact, lowest-effort change available.

Cut the void fill

A box sized closer to the product needs less filler material — less plastic air pillows, less shredded paper, and a smaller box to ship in the first place. This is usually also cheaper.

Skip mixed-material laminates where you can

Gloss plastic laminates make board harder to recycle. A soft-touch matte coating or an uncoated kraft finish keeps the box in the standard paper recycling stream.

Ask your supplier for real numbers

“Eco-friendly” is not a certification. Ask specifically about recycled content percentage, FSC chain-of-custody certification, and whether the finish is recyclable — not just biodegradable in theory.

All PMBoxes materials are available in recycled and FSC-certified options — mention it in your quote request and we’ll price it alongside standard stock.
